International Mother Language Day 21 February
- The United Nations' (UN) International Mother Language Day annually celebrates language diversity and variety worldwide on February 21.
- It also remembers events such as the killing of four students on February 21, 1952, because they campaigned to officially use their mother language, Bengali, in Bangladesh.
சர்வதேச தாய் மொழி தினம் - 21 பிப்ரவரி
- சர்வதேச தாய் மொழி நாள் - 21 பிப்ரவரி (International Mother Language Day) பிப்ரவரி 21 அன்று உலகம் முழுவதும் கொண்டாடப்பட்டு வருகின்றது.
- 1952 இல் இந்த நாளன்று அன்றைய கிழக்கு பாகித்தான் தலைநகர் தாக்காவில் வங்காள மொழியை ஆட்சி மொழியாக அறிவிக்கக் கோரி நடத்தப்பட்ட போராட்டத்தின் போது உயிர்நீத்த நான்கு மாணவர்களின் நினைவாக இந்நாள் உலகளாவிய முறையில் மொழி தொடர்பாக நினைவு கூறப்படும் சிறப்பு நாளாகக் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது.

- Languages, with their complex implications for identity, communication, social integration, education and development, are of strategic importance for people and planet.
- Yet, due to globalization processes, they are increasingly under threat, or disappearing altogether. When languages fade, so does the world's rich tapestry of cultural diversity. Opportunities, traditions, memory, unique modes of thinking and expression — valuable resources for ensuring a better future — are also lost.
- At least 43% of the estimated 6000 languages spoken in the world are endangered. Only a few hundred languages have genuinely been given a place in education systems and the public domain, and less than a hundred are used in the digital world.
- International Mother Language Day has been observed every year since February 2000 to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism.

International Year of indigenous languages 2019
- This year (2019), International Mother Language day 2019 will be framed by the International Year of indigenous languages 2019 (IYIL19) around the theme “Indigenous languages matter for development, peace building and reconciliation”.
