- இந்தியாவின் முதல் நீராவிக் கப்பல் SS Loyalty, 1919, ஏப்ரல் 5 ஆம் தேதி மும்பையில் இருந்து லண்டனுக்கு பயணித்தது. இதை நினைவுகூறும் வகையில் 1964 ஆம் ஆண்டு முதல், ஏப்ரல் 5 ஆம் தேதி, தேசிய கடல்சார் தினம் (National Maritime Day) கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது.
- 55-வது ஆண்டு கடல்சார் தினம் 2018-இன் கருப்பொருள்: இந்திய கப்பல் துறை: வாய்ப்பு ஒரு பெருங்கடல்.
- இந்திய கடற்கரையின் நீளம் 7,517 கி.மீ., நாட்டின் வெளிநாட்டு வர்த்தகத்தில் 90 சதவீதம், துறைமுகங்கள் மூலமே நடைபெறுகிறது.
- இந்தியாவில் ஹல்டியா, பாரதீப், விசாகபட்டினம், சென்னை, எண்ணுார், துாத்துக்குடி, கொச்சி, நியூ மங்களூரு, மர்மகோவா, பனாஜி, நேரு துறைமுகம் (மும்பை), கண்ட்லா என 13 பெரிய துறைமுகங்கள், 200 நடுத்தர மற்றும் சிறிய துறைமுகங்கள் செயல்படுகின்றன.

- In India, 5 April is marked as the National Maritime Day every year. On 5 April, 1919 navigation history was created when SS Loyalty, the first ship of The Scindia Steam Navigation Company Ltd journeyed to the United Kingdom.
- This was a crucial step for India shipping history when sea routes were controlled by the British.

- This day is celebrated to illustrate the awareness in supporting intercontinental commerce and the global economy as the most well-organized, safe and sound environmentally responsive approach of transporting goods from one corner to another corner of the world.
