Davis Cup World Group Play-off tie: Spain beat India 5-0

  • In Davis Cup World Group Play-off tie, hosts India were routed by Spain 0-5. In the last rubber match played (18.09.2016) at the RK Khanna stadium in Delhi. Ram kumar Ramanathan lost to David Ferrer in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
  • Earlier, in the first rubber match Marc Lopez defeated Sumit Nagal 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 giving Spain 4-0 lead. However last evening, Rio Olympics Gold medal winning team of Rafael Nadal and Marc Lopez defeated Leander Paes and Saketh Myneni 4-6, 7-6, 6-4, 6-4 to seal the tie. Saketh and Ramkumar had lost their opening Singles matches earlier.

  • The 2016 Davis Cup World Group Play-offs will be held from 16 to 18 September. They will be the main play-offs of the 2016 Davis Cup.
  • The winners of the playoffs will advance to the 2017 Davis Cup World Group, and the losers will be relegated to their respective Zonal Regions I.
